Adding remote start to older SUV models

I have an older SUV that doesn't come with a remote start feature. I've heard that some models might have the necessary wiring but just lack activation. Has anyone managed to add this feature using key fob programming or diagnostic tools?

What model year is your Navigator because the process is completely different depending on the generation. I wouldn't expect a simple fob programming to work as almost every factory or aftermarket system requires installing a separate control module.
